Correct
method of Meditation (how to meditate)
Meditation is the English
equivalent of Yog (in Hindi) and pronounced yoga in the West. For understanding
the meaning and the correct method of meditation... we need to understand the
real meaning behind the word Yog (in Hindi).
Yog
that also means plus is the attempt of the soul (atman
in Hinduism)
to merge with the mighty soul... the God
Almighty himself! As two plus two equals four... in Hindi
two Yog two equals four! Ever since every soul (atman) got separated
from God Almighty... it desires to Yog back with mighty soul, God
Almighty himself (Parmatman in Hinduism).
True meditation
is an attempt by the bodily form to speed up this merger between
soul
and mighty
soul at the earliest. Any form of meditation
nee yoga that leads one towards the ultimate goal of
life... gaining salvation
and freeing our soul atman within from the bondage
of manifesting life again and again is the truest form of meditation
(yoga).
Any
form of yoga meditation that leads one towards instilling the senses and the mind...
Leads one straight towards Nirvikalpa
Samadhi! In fact, culmination of all forms of yoga meditation is reaching
the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. And what is Nirvikalpa Samadhi? Nirvikalpa
Samadhi is the stage when one having conquered all the five senses and the mind
reaches the stage of nothingness. Practicing Neti
as advocated by Maharishi
Ramana is the best form of meditation. It leads one directly towards
God. Practicing Neti means negating the presence of everything in the Cosmos that
is not God
Almighty! Ultimately when everything gets negated... we come face-to-face with
God Almighty. Gaining
control of the five senses and the mind
is a tough task. It is indeed almost impossible. But for the truest seekers of
spirituality
nothing is impossible. Having absolute faith
in God Almighty is an absolute ingredient on the path of spirituality. Without
absolute faith in Almighty God... nothing much can be achieved on the spiritual
plane. Does
this mean that atheists do not realize god. Yes, the truth is so! Atheists do
not believe in the existence
of God. They do believe in the existence of a higher power. Whatever
be the definition of God... we must never negate the presence of God Almighty
of which our soul atman within our heart is an integral part. As
our soul atman present within our heart being the real truth of life... the presence
of God Almighty also cannot be negated. We may or may not believe the cosmos being
created by God Almighty but to travel the spiritual
path... belief in God is a must! Non believers of God Almighty continue
living a mundane life... Bereft of the essential grace of God, a necessary input
on the path towards God, they remain wherever they are.
If we can feel
the presence of a flower by its smell... we also need to believe
in the existence of God as we experience his grace in day-to-day
matters of life. God Almighty does not have a Sakaar form (a physical
existence). It is Nirakaar in nature (without a form). We recognize
God Almighty by the presence of a soul atman residing in our heart.
Every
soul atman residing in our heart is of the same essence as Almighty
God. It is just that it is minuscule in nature. If an independent
soul atman is a grain of sand... the whole mound is God Almighty.
In
Bhagavad
Gita, the sacred doctrine put forward by Lord
Krishna in Mahabharata...
the definition of God has been given thus, "the sum total of all purified
souls atmans in the cosmos at a given point of time is what we call God Almighty".
Amazingly... this sum total of all purified souls atmans in the cosmos totals
half the size of a thumb. Bhagavad
Gita is absolutely clear on that. To
negate the presence of God is negating our own presence. For every true seeker
of spirituality... to gain enlightenment
without belief in God Almighty is just not possible. Stated in other words, non
believers in the existence of Moon never reach moon. Meditation
simply does not mean sitting in a quite darkened room and focusing our energies
on the centre of a small lit bulb... never knowing where to go further! Yoga meditation
is lying down in Shavasana
pose of yoga and practicing Neti as practiced by Maharishi Ramana. If we find
that the dross within is diminishing... we are on the right path of yoga meditation. In
a lump of hundred KG of iron ore... if we have 1 kg of pure iron... then we need
to remove 99 KG of impurities to separate one KG of pure iron. And for separating
one KG of pure iron from 99 KG impurities... we require a chain of 98.4 million
manifestations. Only then our soul atman (one KG of pure iron) comes back to its
original pure pristine form. The Meditation
yoga is all about removing 99 per cent impurities from hundred KG of iron ore
so that our atman soul (one KG of pure iron) can come back to its original pristine
pure form. And this can be achieved by gaining control over the five senses and
the mind by practicing celibacy
and following the path of Neti. Apart
from practicing celibacy, yoga meditation involves getting out of the clutches
of Prarabdha
karma. To eradicate sins of all the previous lives... we need to absolve
ourselves in totality from the clutches of Prarabdha karma. Absolute control over
the five senses and the mind can only be experienced after we have completely
absolved ourselves from the sins
of past lives. And
how do we absolve ourselves clear of the sins of the past
lives. It is by chanting the mantra related to Prarabdha karma. The
essence of the mantra related to Prarabdha karma is, "it cuts across the
shackles of the karma of past lives in totality". No residual balance of
karma
of past lives to tackle... one easily gains the seat of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. Whatever
karma
we perform in our present life... good or bad... we can absolve ourselves of the
ill effects by proper meditation and chanting of requisite mantra. But what of
the accumulated negative residual karma of past lives. How to come out of its
clutches forever? The sacred mantra that absolves one of the clutches of the sins
of past lives shall be delivered to the mankind at the right opportune moment. Pure
meditation is indulging in acts that bring us nearer to God Almighty. The crux
of cosmic life is that God Almighty has ordained a maximum journey of 96.4 million
earthly years (8.4 million manifestations) to clear 99 per cent impurities ingrained
within our soul atman. The moment one KG of pure iron is separated from 99 KG
of impurities... one gains enlightenment
(Kaivalya
Jnana) and finally salvation (moksha
in Hinduism). To
proceed on the path of pure spirituality within this life or not is the sole prerogative
of every human
being. It is better we start early!
