Celibacy and ChastityBoth celibacy and chastity mean different... they have totally different connotations! Chastity is the art of keeping self pure... maintaining moderation in everything we do in life... not necessarily sexual indulgences! Being chaste... means maintaining purity in all circumstances of life. If one is married... chastity spells moderation in sexual indulgences out of family fold. For a chaste... one night stands... sexual indulgences out of the family fold are totally ruled out. Maintaining moderation in relationships is what chastity is all about! In contrast celibacy is not what most human beings world over think it to be. Celibacy is not voluntarily practicing sexual abstinence. Celibacy has a very broader aspect of life! Abstaining from sexual indulgences constitutes hardly 10% of the job... remaining 90% celibacy is practiced mentally. True celibacy means maintaining purity of thought all the time. Gaining absolute purity is an essential must for a serious traveler of the spiritual path. Absolute celibacy needs practicing by spiritual seekers only! Householders... those not pursuing spirituality need not practice absolute celibacy. Absolute celibacy needs to be practiced for a minimum of 12 years in continuation for reaching the stage of Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed! Practice of absolute celibacy results in full awakening of the Kundalini. The moment the dormant lying Kundalini Shakti awakens fully and reaches the forehead... all is over for that human being... the soul atman within! The seeker finally reaches the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and taking salvation (moksha) enters the abode of God... the kingdom of God (aka Vaikuntha in Hinduism)... a point of no return! Celibacy primarily is meant for those pursuing the path of enlightenment... never otherwise! Remaining chaste is maintaining relationships in right earnestness. A chaste person never indulges in premarital sex... nor maintains many relationships! On the path of absolute celibacy... a maximum of two indulgences per month are permitted... lesser the better!
