Gaining Enlightenment
(kaivalya jnana - enlightenment)

Mankind... the human being is the highest manifested stage in the cosmic life cycle of the soul atman. In absence of mankind... the Cosmos would become absolutely stagnant and worthless. Why? No soul atman can remove the impurities within (the dross within) on its own! To work out its karma it needs to manifest a body. Right from the first manifestation as an amoeba to the last... the 8.4 millionth manifestation as a human being... this circle of life moves on.

Similar as in an ore... the metal within cannot purify itself on its own... it needs the requisite mining machinery... The soul atman also needs a body to purify itself... to remove the dross within! The cosmic life cycle of a soul atman starts by manifesting the form of an amoeba (single cell formation). It further evolves into multi-cell formation, insect life, plant life, animal life and finally the form of a human being.

It is only as a human being the soul atman within can liberate itself from the cycle of birth and death. The soul atman gets its final release only when a human being gains enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha). Thereafter it is a direct journey to the kingdom of God (aka Vaikuntha in Hinduism) for the soul atman within.

The cosmic life cycle... one single span of life for a soul atman gets completed in 96.4 million earthly years... a chain of 8.4 million manifestations. It is a long journey ordained by God Almighty. No human being is supposed to gain enlightenment easily. That was not meant to be. All the temptations, wanton desire and greed for materialistic riches are part of life... not for the soul atman within but for the human being... the manifested form!

The journey of life is governed by the five senses and the mind. It is only when a human being gains control over the five senses and the mind... one reaches the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. Thereafter it is a dialogue with God on one-to-one basis. Having reached stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... the 8.4 millionth manifestation... one finally reaches the stage of enlightenment followed by salvation!

The spiritual path is uncharted... it is difficult but not impossible! In the last about 150 years only two persons reached the stage of enlightenment (amongst a horde of 6500 million people living on Mother Earth). They were... Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana!

At any given point of time the sum total of the Cosmos must always remain zero. If we have day... we also have night. If we have fire... we also have equivalent water. If we have God... we also have Satan. If we have riches... we also have poverty. If we find happiness... we also see sorrow! These equal and opposite powers were created by God to maintain a balance in the Cosmos.

It is purely a prerogative of human beings to invoke positive or negative thoughts at a given moment of time. Those who invoke negative thoughts indulge in destructive activities. Those who invoke positive thoughts become creative. What to invoke... what not to invoke was left in the hands of human beings by God Almighty.

This is the prime reason why the power of discrimination was handed over to mankind. It is this power of discrimination that differentiates animals from human beings. On the negative plane... we behave like an animal. Remaining positive makes us godly.

If we desire gaining enlightenment in this very life... we need to take absolute control of the five senses and the mind. Thereafter practicing absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years is an essential must. Following the path of Neti (not this, not this)... as preached and advocated by Ramana Maharshi the Shavasana way is a sure shot method to gain enlightenment.
