One may believe in religion or not... belief in God or a higher power (as some atheists believe) is an essential must. Why? For the simple reason that a small essence of God Almighty lives within all human beings in form of our soul atman within. In absence of the soul... the body would just decay and die. We human beings are a part of the complete whole. God Almighty cannot exist without human beings.

Our soul atman which is a minuscule form of God within us... cannot purify itself on its own. As in the mining process... our soul atman within requires manifesting a body so that it can work out its karma.

The dross within the soul atman can only be removed by manifesting a life form. In every act of the cosmic life cycle... the existence of God is inevitable. Our relationship with God is inherent... it has always been so since times immemorial.

Belief in religion is a faith. If I need to travel the spiritual path... belief in religion is not a necessity. I can complete the journey until enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and salvation (moksha) in absence of religion.

Religion helps one live the physical manifest life of 70 to 80 years. Belief in God helps one complete the cosmic journey and reach the last... 8.4 million manifestation! Beyond that it is a straight journey to kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism) by our soul atman within.

Belief in God
Belief in the supernatural... God Almighty himself is the gist of life. As an atheist one may or may not believe in the existence of God Almighty... but most atheists (with whom I have come in contact) believe that there exists some supernatural source of energy over which human beings have no control... something far more superior and powerful than human beings!

Define God
God Almighty... a cluster of pure energy is but the sum total of all souls (atmans) in the cosmos at a given point of time. The essence of every soul (atman) being the same as God Almighty... every soul is but a minuscule God in its entity.

God Almighty
You want God Almighty to help one... a human being who is already the culprit of his situation! Every soul atman is but a minuscule form of God Almighty. The form of a human being is the highest manifest stage in the cosmic life cycle. Having crossed a cosmic journey of 7.3 million manifestations... the soul atman reaches the manifest stage of human life... what more can a lusting human form desire!

God and Satan
Once you realize what God Almighty is... the concept of Satan would itself become clear! God Almighty is not the form of a human being. The concept of God Almighty can never be understood with the limitations of the senses and the mind. Only when one gains enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) the real picture emerges.

Kingdom of God
The kingdom of God (Baikuntha) is a place of no return. Every soul (aka atman in Hinduism) after gaining liberation from the cycle of birth and death forever reaches the kingdom of God... the final abode... a point of no return! Only the souls of enlightened beings (kaivalya Jnanis') who have gained salvation (moksha) can enter the abode of God... the Kingdom of God!
