Define
Hinduism
Hinduism primarily
is not considered a religion... it is a way of life! Why? Hinduism
never developed after the following of an enlightened one... like
Buddhism, Christianity and Islamic Dharma. Buddhism followed the
teachings of Gautama Buddha, Christianity the primary teachings
of Jesus Christ and Islamic Dharma from the teachings of Prophet
Mohammed.
In Hinduism...
initially came Vedas... the words of God that were invoked by the
sages and saints of that era even before the advent of Lord Krishna!
The four primary Vedas were voluminous... and unreachable to the
masses... namely Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda!
About 3600 years
before came Lord Krishna... an Avatar of his era (God manifest in
human form) and precipitated the voluminous Vedas to Bhagavad Gita
(also termed Vedanta... end of the Vedas). Now the gist of the sacred
scriptures was available to mankind in one single document... the
sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism!
Apart from the
Vedas, Hinduism consists of above 200 Upanishads (Independent treatises)
composed and compiled by various sages and saints of that era! Every
single Upanishad is a class in itself. In Hinduism apart from the
Vedas, the Upanishads, the sacred Bhagavad Gita... we have two voluminous
epics... the Ramayana and Mahabharata!
Every single
sacred Scripture of Hinduism has its merits. As is the belief of
one, so is the following! One who believes in Lord Rama... follows
his teachings in Ramayana ceremoniously!
The word Hinduism
evolved from Muslim invaders... that invaded the present India numerous
times from the East. India was divided from the eastern region by
river Indus. As the Muslims pronounced H for I... they started spelling
the people beyond river Indus as Hindus... and came into being the
so-called religion Hinduism.
Those who believe
in God Almighty and follow the path of spirituality... believe more
in Bhagavad Gita than Ramayana. Bhagavad Gita is a sure shot method
for reaching God Almighty at the earliest... gaining enlightenment
(kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha).
The presence
of thousands of sacred scriptures... different beliefs and faiths
in Hinduism do not call for a centralized system! It simply cannot
be. The best aspect of Hinduism is... anyone can follow Hinduism...
its precepts without converting to Hindu religion... becoming a
Hindu. Hinduism has universal appeal... anyone world over can follow
the doctrine of Hinduism.
