Animal Worship
In Ayurveda...
an old branch of medicine... where stress is more on herbal and
natural treatment... cow urine is considered sacrosanct! Not because
in Hinduism Indians respect cows... but for the reason the cow urine
has some medicinal properties. It is used in making some medicines.
Hinduism is
the most logistical of all religions existing in the world. Every
act in Hinduism precipitates from proven factors... not mere assumptions...
as in Christianity and Islam! Knowing well that heaven exists somewhere
in the center of the sun where temperatures exceed millions of degree
centigrade... people still desire a seat in heaven!
In Hinduism...
there is no dearth of gods! Hinduism has a total of 330 million
gods... that is practically one god per four Indians. Interesting...
is it not!
In Hinduism
God Almighty is only one. God Almighty is also termed as Brahman,
Parmatman, Karta, Sanatana Purusha etc. But for the masses... a
commoner to worship God as a cosmic entity... in Nirakaar form (without
a form) is just not possible... the prime reason why Hindus worship
God in myriads of ways!
For one who
cannot afford going to a temple... one can circumambulate and worship
a tree considering it as representing God. In India most rivers...
mountains are considered sacrosanct! All are worshiped as representative
entities of God. In the nascent stages of life... when wisdom had
not yet evolved as of now... people feared every form of nature.
Those living
by a river... started worshiping rivers. Those living in the higher
regions... worshipped mountains. Whatever form human beings could
lay hands on... people started worshiping God in that form! As long
as people worshipped God... there was nothing wrong in the manner
they were doing it!
There were times
when children depended upon cow's milk. Whole families depended
upon the milk of cow. It was also a bread earner for the family.
And with passage of time... people started worshiping cow as sacred!
Life depended
upon sun, air, water... and people started worshiping all these
forms! Monkeys are considered representing Hanuman... the favorite
pupil and follower of Lord Rama! Monkeys are also considered sacrosanct
in India. Snakes are worshiped for their attributes. As per mythology...
normally snakes make a hideout at places where lay a bounty of gold
and diamonds!
Also, Cobras
are the favorite of Lord Shiva... the most powerful attribute of
God Almighty! Mouse is worshipped by some as it is the favorite
vehicle of Lord Ganesha. There is no end to as what can be worshipped
in Hinduism.
The ultimate
crux of life lay in truly worshiping God... and not the mode! As
God Almighty is approachable to all... as per Hinduism every human
being has a right to worship God in ones own way. One need not go
to a temple for worshiping God.
