Names
of Hinduism Gods
There is no
dearth of gods in Hinduism. As per mythology 330 million gods exist
in Hinduism. But above all Hinduism believes in existence of only
one Creator... one God Almighty... also termed Brahman... Parmatman...
Karta... Sanatana Purusha! In Hinduism God is one and only one...
the ultimate Creator of all things cosmic!
During Vedic
times when wisdom was in its infancy... people prayed to God...
worshipped God most of the time (mostly out of fear). Science had
not yet evolved fully... none knew the intricacies of the cosmic
system! It was only through praying and worshiping God... people
sought blessings of God Almighty!
If rains were
less... people prayed to God Indra... for firepower... people pray
to God Agni... practically for everything people in Hinduism during
the Vedic times had a God. All these gods whom the people prayed
to were not physical entities... they were only symbolic... a way
of expressing gratitude to God Almighty!
In the Hinduism
Trinity of gods we have Brahma (the Creator), Lord Vishnu (the maintainer)
and finally the most powerful of all... Lord Shiva (aka Mahesh)...
the destroyer... the ultimate maintainer of the cosmic system! Lord
Shiva is considered the most powerful attribute of God Almighty
as it exercises power over death.
Seekers of the
spiritual path... those serious about knowing Hinduism must dwell
in wisdom contained in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism. Considering
God Almighty as one and only one... fathoming the depth of wisdom
contained in Bhagavad Gita... I finally realized God in 1993 at
37 years of age!
If we desire
materialistic riches... then people pray to goddess Lakshmi! Those
who seek welfare in general worship Lord Ganesha! For every different
requirement we have a God in Hinduism. But all these gods are limited
to material welfare of the community... not traveling the spiritual
path... the path of absolute wisdom!
For gaining
enlightenment and finally salvation... the wisdom contained in sacred
Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism suffices! Spirituality is much different
from religion. For living the present physical manifest life of
70 to 80 years in a meaningful manner... Religion is necessitated
but for knowing the inner truths of life... the wisdom contained
in Bhagavad Gita is the only recourse!
