Women in HinduismMuslim ladies wear a veil because it is mandated by sharia... the Muslim code of conduct! The disciplines in Islam have reached almost fanatical levels. Those not wearing a veil in public... are lashed. Even before our relatives one is supposed to wear a veil! Contrary to above... Hindu ladies do not wear a veil similar to Muslim women! Only as a mark of respect, Indians ladies of the yore keep a veil over their head and face when confronting elders of the family. Nothing in Hinduism is strictly imposed... every lady is free to wear anything! The moral codes in Hinduism are self imposed... never dictated by others! Hinduism is the most compassionate of all religions... giving due respect to all men and women... gentlemen and ladies! Under no circumstances... ladies can ever be lashed in Hinduism. In present times... if Islamic Dharma is equated with fanatical tendencies... Hinduism is equally tolerant! Everything in Hinduism is based on logic. Either you convince me... or I convince you... and whoever finally convinces the other is the winner! In present times... most Hindu ladies do not cover their face or head with a veil. Gone are the times when Hindus married ladies even without having a single look at her. Until the bride entered the house after marriage... she remained behind a veil... such were the customs of the yore! Times have changed... people have matured... and accordingly the customs have been manipulated! Why beat about the bush. Essence of life lay in moderation... in changing with times! This is what Hinduism is all about.
