Hinduism
religion a Way of Life
Hinduism primarily
is not a religion... it is a way of life! Hinduism is considered
a complex religion for the prime reason that it consists of innumerable
gods... has unlimited scriptures... untold rituals... from where
to make a beginning becomes difficult!
It is a different
matter that Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism is foremost of all scriptures.
Knowing Bhagavad Gita one can assimilate the entire wisdom of the
cosmos... gain enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and salvation (moksha).
Hinduism is
primarily a conglomerate of various beliefs and practices. India
before gaining independence was invaded from the east by Muslim
invaders. The invaders crossed river Indus before entering India.
The Muslim invaders pronounced H for I. with passage of time...
people living beyond river Indus came to be known as Hindus... and
the religion Hinduism!
In Hinduism
initially came the Vedas but the four principal Vedas were incomprehensible
to the masses. Came Lord Krishna and precipitated the wisdom of
the Vedas to Bhagavad Gita which is also termed Vedanta (end of
Vedas). Bhagavad Gita is one such scripture which has no parallel
in mankind.
Mahavira, Gautama
Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed... all gained enlightenment
in their lifetime based on the teachings of Bhagavad Gita! For knowing
the essence of Bhagavad Gita one need not convert to Hinduism. Following
ones religion... one can follow the teachings of Bhagavad Gita which
has a universal appeal.
Apart from Vedas...
the sacred Bhagavad Gita, Hinduism has numerous Upanishads (independent
treatises) which are commentaries by renowned sages and saints of
their era. Upanishads also form the core of Hinduism. Apart from
Upanishads, Hinduism has two great epics... the sacred Mahabharata
and Ramayana.
The list of
gods is endless. As per Hinduism there exist 330 million gods. However
Hinduism considers the existence of Brahman also termed God Almighty,
Parmatman, Sanatana Purusha and Karta as the only truth of life.
As per Hinduism apart from Brahman nothing else exists in whole
of cosmos. The doctrine of Maya (veil of illusion) takes care of
that.
For truly understanding
Hinduism... whatever is contained in the 700 shlokas (verses) of
Bhagavad Gita suffices. The knower of Bhagavad Gita finally becomes
the knower of all... gains omniscience for all practical purposes.
The contents of Bhagavad Gita can never be understood literally...
one needs reading in between the lines.
Following the
dictates of Bhagavad Gita... I finally realized God in 1993 at 37
years of age. I have reached the end of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth
manifestation. Nowhere else to go further I shall but attain salvation
(moksha) at the end of present life cycle.
