Path
of Meditation
Meditation is
the path... not a goal of life! If we desire traveling the spiritual
path... we need establishing a spiritual goal of life. My goal in
life was reaching God in present lifetime. Others may have a different
goal! Having a goal in life is journey half complete. Above 95%
people world over never form a goal in life... their life is like
a rudderless boat going round and round in the ocean!
Once we establish
a goal... we need understanding meaning of meditation! Meditation
simply is cleansing our real self... our soul atman... the spirit
of all dross impurities contained within! This is made possible
by gaining absolute control over the five senses and the mind. In
the present Kali Yuga... the metal age... Dark Age... this is a
difficult proposition but not impossible!
In meditation
we need not concentrate on the center of a dimly lit bulb sitting
in a dark room. The correct process of meditation is self inquiry.
The approach of spirituality is based on logic. Either you are
correct... or it is me... whoever is correct in the end wins the
race. There is no scope for ambiguity on the path of pure spirituality.
No query can
end of its own! There is always one final answer to every query.
If we are truthful... either we are hundred percent truthful or
we are not. One simply cannot say... I am 99% truthful! It simply
would not work on the path of pure spirituality. Spirituality demands
highest level of perfection... everything has to be hundred percent!
Most human beings
in life lead midway... some at 90%... some at 92%... some at 95%...
and some at 99% like Acharya Rajneesh (aka Osho). In the end phase
of his spiritual pursuit, Acharya Rajneesh mixed sex with spirituality.
Such things are simply not permitted. Sexual indulgence has no place
in the field of spirituality.
Lying in the
Shavasana pose of yoga... I always meditated on God... asking different
queries... and getting their answers from the unknown! This is what
self inquiry is all about. The process of self inquiry... as preached
and advocated by Maharishi Ramana... the path of Neti (not this,
not this) does not have a parallel. It is through the process of
Neti I finally realized God in 1993.
Neti (not this,
not this) is best practiced in the Shavasana pose of yoga. All my
life I followed this path of meditation. It never failed me! Whatever
our goal of life... we must reach the end logically! Querying, answering
and proceeding ahead step-by-step is what spirituality is all about.
One day... after establishing full control over five senses and
the mind... we finally reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (the
stage of nothingness). This experience can never be expressed in
words.
On the path
of meditation... practicing absolute celibacy for a period of 12
years in continuation is a necessity... an absolute must! In absence
of practice of absolute celibacy... full awakening of the Kundalini
is just not possible. The dormant Kundalini shakti lying in the
base of the spine... the moment it awakens fully... one gains omniscience...
reaches the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana)... a point of
no return! Once awakened... one can never return to daily chores.
Sage Vishwamitra...
a contemporary of sage Vashistha always remained jealous of him.
Always keeping angry about one thing or other... God Almighty decided
to teach him a lesson. On the sight of a lonely woman taking bath
in forlorn circumstances in deep dense jungles (forests)... he fell
from grace! Sage Vishwamitra had to repeat the practice of celibacy
all over again.
On the path
of pure spirituality... there are no short cuts! The path to the
house of God is fixed... difficult... not unattainable! More difficult
during the present metal age when wanton desires and greed for materialistic
riches take precedence! The lure and attractions of the physical
manifest world make it tough to travel the spiritual path. Only
people like Swami Vivekananda make it!
It is a different
matter that Swami Vivekananda did not gain enlightenment in his
lifetime. When his spiritual master Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa asked
him bluntly why he had come to him if his aim of life was not reaching
God, Swami Vivekananda replied, "He just wanted to have a glimpse
of God"! The goal of his life was community service... serving
children of God at its best.
