Path
of Shruti Jnana steps to shruti jnana Reaching
the stage of Shruti Jnana is the end of life itself. Right from the start of life
from first manifestation as an amoeba and to the last as an enlightened
being... it is reaching the cosmic end of life when one enters the
domain of God.
And the domain of God (Kingdom
of God) can only be entered by the path of Shruti Jnana. Shruti
Jnana encompasses different stages in life which need to be established before
one reaches the top rung of the ladder. Only one who desires to see
God in the present life requires proceeding on the path of Shruti Jnana. Every
serious seeker
of Spirituality initially needs to establish absolute control over
all the five senses. The control over all the five senses can be established one
by one. This control can only be established by one who enters the domain of truthfulness
always and ever. There is no scope for being untruthful in life if we truly desire
to reach the level of Shruti Jnana.
Truthfulness is the only medium which makes one establish control over the five
senses one by one. As we proceed on the spiritual
journey of life... we need to overcome our wanton desires every now
and then. This can be made possible by chanting of various mantras which lead
one towards eradicating the dross within.
As
the dross within a human
being reduces (the dross is contained in the atman
soul within). By the performance of the right karma
by the body... the dross can be contained and this leads to our atman soul getting
purer. The increase in purity reflects upon the decrease in the dross within the
atman soul
(contained in the body of a human being). As
one establishes control over the senses... a subtle calm prevails over the body.
It is as if our body is getting lighter and lighter. Performing the right mode
of yoga
(meditation)
leads one to getting purer on the spiritual scale.
On the physical plane... one may feel the pinch of the worldly tasks not getting
completed in time but the elevation on the spiritual
scale provides the needed solace. As one rises higher on the spiritual plane...
one shall always make it a point that the physical tasks assigned to us by God
Almighty also need to be done in time. Making a balance between the
two requires patience and persistence which needs to be practiced intelligently.
Maintaining the right
balance between the earthly tasks and the achievements on the spiritual
plane is the most complicated of all the tasks required of a serious
seeker of spirituality. It is the only way out of the earthly domain. One can
never establish control over the five senses unless one practices absolute patience
and persistence in daily life. Establishing
control over the five senses does not mean establishing a dictatorial control
over the senses. It practically means that we burn out the karma related to the
five senses. Unless and until the root cause of all the five senses is eradicated...
a firm control over all the five senses can never be established.
Temporal removal of the grass from the field does not mean the field has been
cleared of all the impurities. With passage of time... the deeply embedded seeds
again take roots. And the chain reaction continues! In the field of spirituality
also the senses are required to be nipped in the bud lest the deeply embedded
emotions again take root.
Having
established control over the five senses... one need to establish absolute control
over the mind.
And what does this mean? Can anyone ever establish absolute control over the mind
power? Yes! That is possible but for one who seeks enlightenment
in the end of the journey. Gaining
control over the power of mind means... reaching the source of all wisdom contained
in the Cosmos. Every single thought invoked by us is ever present in the reservoir
of mind
plus or mind minus. It is as if everything (every spoken thought) has
always existed in the reservoir of mind plus or mind minus ever since the beginning
of time. Yes! It is so.
Every human being only has a brain and not a mind. It is the faculty of the brain
which invokes positive thoughts from the reservoir of mind plus and negative thoughts
from the reservoir of mind minus. If that is so... is it possible that we completely
block the flow of negative thoughts to our brain? Yes, patiently practicing yoga
(meditation) one can perfect the flow of only positive thoughts to our brain.
When
songs get transmitted from a radio station... every transistor can be tuned in
for a different frequency. On one frequency we may hear a male voice singing and
on the other frequency we can tune in to hear a female voice. Similarly, in the
field of spirituality every serious seeker of spirituality can make the faculty
of brain only invoke positive thoughts all the time. It
is traveling on the waves of positive thoughts for a lengthy period of time that
one eventually gains absolute control over the free flow of thoughts and reaches
the stage of Nirvikalpa
Samadhi... the stage when the flow of thoughts almost stops. It is
this stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi when one comes face-to-face with God Almighty.
The moment one establishes absolute control over the free flow of
thoughts... one is supposed to have reached the stage of Shruti
jnana... the stage when through the power of Shruti one can invoke
thoughts as desired by one. Having established absolute control
over the power of mind one finally reaches the stage of Shruti Jnana.
It
is a different matter altogether that between establishing absolute control over
the senses and the mind lays the domain of celibacy
and practicing Neti.
To establish control over the senses and the mind... one also needs to establish
control over the sexual tendencies existing within one. One needs to practice
Celibacy
Brahmacharya Vrata for a continuous period of 12 years for reaching
the stage of Shruti Jnana. Practicing
Neti leads one towards the kingdom of God. It is an established fact that everything
contained in the cosmos is nonexistent. It is only because of senses that we feel
the existence of the cosmos. Speaking in plain terms... everything in the cosmic
system is gaseous in nature. It is only our ignorance (Veil of Maya)
that makes us assume that Cosmos is solid in nature.
This also leads us to the fact that the existence
of God is the only truth and everything else is Maya Veil of Ignorance.
Inherently every living being is proceeding towards gaining enlightenment
in the end. Practice of Neti leads one towards the only absolute truth that is
God Almighty.
Shruti
Jnana plays an important role in cutting across the Veil of Maya and leading one
towards God Almighty. It is only when one reaches the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi
does the text of Bhagavad
Gita become absolutely clear to one. In
a nutshell, the path of Shruti Jnana is reached after one has cut across the barriers
of senses and the mind. What ultimately remains in the end is only the Almighty
God! (Practice of celibacy and Neti are only a means to achieve the ultimately
end).
We must never forget that the path of Shruti Jnana is available to one only after
gaining enlightenment... never before!
