This entire span of life of 96.4 million years in the life of the soul atman... is one single span of life... uninterrupted and continuous! In the circumstances how can a soul atman take birth in a new body! As detailed in the Sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism... the most sacred scripture existing on Mother Earth... the soul atman simply manifests a new body! After the death of the old body... based on the residual balance of karma the soul atman manifests a new body... a new cycle of life! If we come to know that our best friend in present life was the cause of our death in the previous manifestation... then what! For this simple reason... human beings are not permitted to look back into the past. As destined by life... we have only 70 to 80 years of life! If we are born in present life in the house of a cobbler... all owes its existence to the residual balance of karma from all the previous manifestations. Having born a cobbler's son... one can definitely manifest destiny... take absolute control of destiny... marry the princess of the state! Whatever be our karma today... accordingly shall be our future! If we desire our soul atman manifesting a higher level of life in the next manifestation... we need performing positive karma... Punya karma all the time! The domain of human life limited to one life only... it is in our interest we perform our best! Why leave things to chance! We must always remember our soul atman is the absolute master and controller of the body and not vice versa. As a body... the human form we simply need assist our soul atman in completing the cosmic journey of life at the earliest! The moment human beings reached the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha)... all is over for the soul atman within! The liberated soul atman finally enters the abode of God... the kingdom of God (aka Vaikuntha in Hinduism).
